Episode 9.8

In a challenging episode filled with moral ambiguity, to see off another threat to the Earth’s ecology, the still Saucer-less Alan had to form an unlikely alliance with the usually villainous Think Tank. Now the grateful Terrans applaud their saviours at a banal ceremony. 

Eagle-eyed viewers will have spotted that TW - who usually plays Alan’s own upright Number One - here plays George ‘Lord of the Idiots’ Costanza, the shadowy spokesman for the Think Tank. Such potential continuity issues have also plagued TW’s father-in-law Peter Capaldi who played two other characters in Doctor Who and Torchwood before playing the Doctor. Here, however, the scriptwriters have brilliantly solved the problem by adding just a tiny hint of the BDSM vibe that usually suggests origins in the evil Mirror Universe. That explains it!
